It was a day for celebrations in the Garryowen area of Limerick City today as locals toasted the success of last Saturday night’s (20th April) Limerick win as a lotto jackpot winner scooped the prize of €8,970,934. In 2005, G O Stores was also the site of Ireland’s most famous EuroMillions win in 2005 when Dolores McNamara won a jackpot prize worth over €115 million.

The winning Limerick lotto win Quick Pick ticket was purchased on the day of the draw at G O Stores which is situated in the heart of the Garryowen community on the outskirts of Limerick city. Incredibly, in 2005, G O stores became one of the most famous neighbourhood stores throughout Europe after they sold the winning ticket for the largest ever EuroMillions jackpot at the time, worth over €115 million to Dolores McNamara.

Speaking at a media event at his famous store in Limerick City, store owner Tom Brosnan was in disbelief that his small store could sell another life-changing lottery prize in his time:

“We’re back on the map for lottery win, big time. It’s been 19 years since we sold the winning EuroMillions ticket to Dolores (McNamara) but this win is just as magical. Most of our customers are local and we’re absolutely thrilled for whoever it might be. The whole community has been down to the shop today, there’s a great buzz about the place and I’m sure the celebrations will continue for a good few weeks until the winner comes forward. Whoever they are, we wish them the very best of luck,” he said.

The National Lottery are continuing to appeal to Limerick Lotto players to check their tickets carefully as Saturday’s jackpot winner is yet to make contact. The winner is advised to sign the back of their ticket and should make contact with the prize claims team on 1800 666 222 or email [email protected] and arrangements will be made for them to collect their life-changing amount.

Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage and the Irish Language.
